Submission & Release Terms
Your story remains yours. These terms explain the permissions and safeguards needed when you choose to share it publicly.

When these terms apply
These terms apply when you intentionally submit a story, portrait, photograph, recording, quotation, testimonial, or related material for possible inclusion in The Mom Archive, 100 Self-Portraits, 100 Dreams, a MUM publication, exhibition, website, social channel, press activity, or promotional material. Simply attending a workshop or privately answering workshop questions is not a public-content submission.
Your ownership and promises
You keep ownership of material you created. You promise that your submission is truthful to the best of your knowledge, that you own it or hold all necessary rights and permissions, and that its use will not violate copyright, privacy, confidentiality, publicity, contractual, or other rights. You must identify material created by someone else and provide written permission when requested.
Permission to use an accepted submission
If MUM accepts your submission and you complete the applicable consent or release, you grant MUM the rights described in that document. Unless a specific release says otherwise, permission may include editing, translating, formatting, reproducing, publishing, displaying, distributing, archiving, promoting, and making the submission available worldwide in print, digital, exhibition, press, educational, and social-media formats. Any licence must be interpreted together with your specific consent choices.
Editing, attribution, and context
MUM may make reasonable edits for length, clarity, translation, design, safety, and format while seeking to preserve meaning. Attribution may use your name, chosen name, initials, or anonymity according to the agreed release and practical publishing limits. We will not knowingly present your words in a materially false or defamatory way.
Sensitive information and other people
Share only what you are comfortable making public under the chosen release. Avoid unnecessary addresses, identification numbers, medical records, financial details, or information that could place anyone at risk. If your story identifies another person, especially a child or vulnerable person, MUM may request consent, anonymize details, edit the content, or decline it. A parent or lawful guardian must approve material involving a minor.
Selection, payment, and publication
Submission does not guarantee selection, publication, a particular format, promotion, payment, royalties, free copies, or a publication date. Unless a separate signed agreement says otherwise, participation is voluntary and unpaid. MUM may reject or remove material for editorial, legal, ethical, safety, space, or project reasons.
Withdrawal
You may ask to withdraw consent for future uses by contacting MUM through mumunited.com. We will act where legally required and reasonably practicable. Withdrawal may not affect uses already made lawfully, third-party resharing outside our control, archived records required by law, or physical books and materials already printed, distributed, or sold.
Artificial intelligence
MUM will not intentionally license an identifiable submission to train a third party's general-purpose artificial-intelligence model unless that use is clearly disclosed and separately authorized. Routine tools may still be used for functions such as spam prevention, transcription, translation, accessibility, moderation, search, or editing, subject to appropriate safeguards.
Separate release controls
A submission form, model release, interview release, publishing agreement, or other signed consent may contain more specific choices. If it conflicts with these general terms, the more specific written agreement controls for that submission.
